A week ago Yahoo decided to just change my email address.
I just noticed it as another one of my email addresses had an email of a failed delivery:
The response from the remote server was:
552 1 Requested mail action aborted, mailbox not found
554 Message not allowed - [299]
Looking at said email account, I still had access to it under my address. Logging in with my data also worked without problems. And all my data was still there.
That was confusing.
In the settings I found, that my address now was different. And yes, with that one I could send and receive mails.
Search for an answer on how to change my address again, nothing came up. So it couldn't have happen by me or anyone clicking things in my account, but most probably was an error on Yahoos side.
Trying to find a way to quickly and easily get in contact with them kind of failed. I didn't try the hotline, but found a way to send them a mail, but also never got an answer.
Thunderbird helped me save all my data from the account.
Still, how to get in contact with services, where you are registered on the internet, and change your email addresses without having access to the original anymore?
How to verify, that you are you?
And what about services, that would send me an email, get that 552 response? Would they directly delete my account account? Why keep it, when the address is gone?
Right?
Anxiety, worries, concern.
One day later, I see again emails coming in to my account.
They restored my email address.
But the other address, that was assigned to me, now was not working anymore.
And also: they didn't send any answer, information, apology, or anything at all.
As if nothing ever happened…
